State budget adds school, trooper funding

Lawmakers approved a new state budget that includes a $1.8 billion allocation to Michigan's state universities and community colleges - a 3 percent boost from their current allotment and their first increase in four years. Increased funding for individual schools ranges from 2.5 percent at Wayne State University to a 6 percent at Grand Valley State.
